COMPANY
The wine growing and wine producing activity of the NERA family started in 1940 with Guido Nera, who was succeeded, at the end of the fifties, by his son Pietro, who resolutely and proudly united various hectares of vineyards adjacent to the winery’s original property, which are now owned by the winery Azienda Agricola CAVEN founded in 1982 by the brothers Stefano and Simone Nera.
Casa Vinicola Pietro Nera is one of the most important and prestigious wineries in the Valtellina and boasts a long tradition in enhancing and promoting the territory, as well as cultivating vineyards and producing high-quality, unique wines, which have been awarded certifications of merit in various national and international competitions.
WINERY
The grapes that are harvested are vinified according to longstanding expertise and passion of the Nera family in the cellar situated in Chiuro (province of Sondrio). Total wine production amounts to 40,000 litres, of which about 10,000 litres are aged in oak casks, barriques and tonneaux. All the wine-making processes are meticulously performed with methodical thoroughness and know-how, fully respecting timehonoured wine-making traditions.
The company produces the entire range of Valtellina appellation wines: Sforzato di Valtellina D.O.C.G., the Valtellina Superiore D.O.C.G. wines of the various subzones Sassella, Inferno, Grumello, Valgella and the relevant prestigious riservas (‘Riserve’), as well as Rosso di Valtellina D.O.C. and the other I.G.T. Terrazze Retiche di Sondrio Rosso, Bianco and Passito Rosso wines. The riserva wines are produced, only in the best years, from grapes picked in historical vineyards that are monitored by the agriculturist and oenologist of the company, Stefano Nera. Among these, we wish to highlight two crus: Valtellina Superiore D.O.C.G. Signorie® Riserva made from grapes picked in a vineyard in the subzone Valgella, in the commune of Chiuro, and Valtellina Superiore D.O.C.G. Paradiso® Riserva, derived from grapes from a vineyard in the subzone Inferno, straddling the communes of Poggiridenti and Tresivio. Besides these wines, we also wish to point out our exclusive grappas obtained from the pomace used to make Sassella, Inferno and Sforzato wines as well as the Cuvée Caven metodo classico sparkling wine. Excellent vineyard management and vinification of the grapes are achieved through the passion, the pride and the work of a family, which uses all its resources and professionalism to offer consumers and wine enthusiasts
